New Fall Themed Story Time Book!

After our recent trip to the library we have started reading Leaf Man written by Lois Ehlert. It is a wonderful story about a leaf man who is blown away by an Autumn breeze. While caught in this breeze he flies over many other leaf plants and animals.

WP_20151014_10_08_24_ProSince this is not a particularly long book we just sit and read it a few times. I did not see the need to create any movement activities with this book. Babs loved the book! As we read I point out all the different leaf creatures on each page. Now when we are outside she spends most of her time looking for Leaf Man…lol! It’s actually pretty cool to see her make the connection. 🙂 Gone are the days of looking for cloud animals during summer picnics….sigh, an on to finding the many leaf creations a Fall breeze can create! Art project post is soon to follow!

Dollar Store Dress Up

WP_20151014_08_50_29_Pro
She was to busy putting out fires for a picture in her fireman hat so I had to settle with cowgirl, beads and all!

Dress up can keep kids entertained for hours and it doesn’t have to be elaborate! Since it is around Halloween time the Dollar Tree by our house has some simple dress up items that has inspired creativity in Babs I didn’t even know she had yet! A simple plastic fireman helmet sparked discussion about what firefighter does as well as encouraged her to use some toys or household items in different ways. She put on the hat and away she went! She used a mixing spoon for a hose and pretended the couch was on fire. She ran around the house making fire engine noises, it was great! Ahhh….to be a kid again! I think I see a cardboard box fire truck in our future creations. 🙂 She has been so into it that we just started reading the book Firefighter Ted by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by Pascal Lemaitre. Dress up is the most fun for us when follow Babs lead. If you find anything cool and cheap while you are shopping give me a heads up!

Music and Rhymes

Flashlight Fireflies

Flashlight Fireflies is a new rhyme we are working on this week. Babs really loved it probably because she gets to use a flashlight. 🙂 I picked up a two flashlights at the Dollar Tree. They are the small ones so they won’t be to heavy for tiny hands. Our hallway is dark enough to do this activity but a bedroom with the curtains closed would work great too. The first time I say the rhyme I show her the motions with the flashlight. The second time around I give her a flashlight and we do it together. She liked it so much we did this rhyme about 10 times! The rhyme is listed below, however, you can download the word document for Flashlight Fireflies and print it. I like to print the rhyme and also a coloring page to go with it. I foundWP_20151013_17_23_18_Pro this coloring page at COLORING.WS from DLTK’s website. I will have Babs color it later this week and add it to our song and rhyme binder. Then she can go through and use the picture to choose a rhyme. I also add the word document because I would probably mess up the words if I didn’t….hahaha! The motions are in parenthesis below each line. It goes like this….

Firefly firefly in the sky,

(wave flashlight on ceiling)

Firefly firefly way up high,

(wave flashlight on ceiling)

Firefly firefly come down low,

(wave flashlight on floor or wall)

Firefly firefly move so slow

(wave flashlight very slow on floor or wall)
